Fuel Cost Calculator – Plan Your Road Trip Budget

The Fuel Cost Calculator helps drivers and travelers estimate the total petrol or diesel expense for any trip. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or a long highway journey, knowing your fuel costs in advance helps you budget smartly.

Fuel Cost Formula

Fuel Required (litres) = Distance (km) ÷ Mileage (km/l)
Total Fuel Cost = Fuel Required × Price per litre
Cost per km = Total Fuel Cost ÷ Distance

Example Calculation

For a 500 km trip in a car with 15 km/l mileage and petrol at ₹103/litre:

  • Fuel Required = 500 / 15 = 33.33 litres
  • Total Cost = 33.33 × 103 = ₹3,433
  • Cost per km = ₹6.87

Average Mileage of Popular Vehicles

  • Maruti Alto / S-Presso: 22–24 km/l
  • Honda City / Hyundai Verna: 15–18 km/l
  • Toyota Innova: 12–15 km/l
  • SUVs (Fortuner, Thar): 8–12 km/l
  • Hero Splendor / Honda Activa: 55–65 km/l
  • Trucks: 6–9 km/l

Tips to Improve Fuel Efficiency

  • Maintain steady speed (avoid frequent acceleration/braking)
  • Keep tyres inflated to recommended pressure
  • Service your vehicle regularly
  • Avoid carrying excess weight
  • Use AC only when necessary

Enter 600 km distance, your car's mileage (e.g., 15 km/l), and current petrol price. At ₹103/litre: Fuel = 40 litres, Cost = ₹4,120. Use our calculator for exact figures based on your vehicle.

They're the same thing! KMPL (Kilometres Per Litre) and km/l both measure how many kilometres your vehicle travels per litre of fuel. Higher KMPL = better fuel efficiency = lower cost per km.

Select "Diesel" in the fuel type dropdown to set the approximate diesel price, or enter the current diesel price manually. Enter your diesel vehicle's mileage (km/l) and trip distance for accurate results.

Yes! Simply double your one-way distance to get the round-trip distance. For example, for a 250 km one-way trip, enter 500 km to calculate the total fuel cost for the complete journey.
